Patty and I did these for her son's 1st birthday. I loved this theme. Isn't the alligator pinata so cute? For the monkey cake (which I can't take any credit for-I only added the mouth and the eye dots) we used the chocolate frosting with chocolate cake. She baked a 9" cake cut some dents out of the sides for the ears then added cupcakes inside the dents. She frosted it added the chocolate jimmies. We cut a cookie to make his hair and used cookies for his eyes, licorice ropes for his mouth, and piped on his nostrils.
For the cupcakes we used the cream cheese frosting and tons of candies and cookies. For the alligator we cut a graham cracker in the shape of his mouth frosted it green then piped on his teeth. The elephant and monkey ears are nutter butter. The zebra and tiger ears are frosted candy corns. The penguin is a grasshopper cookie cut in half with candy corn for his feet. The bears ears are junior mints. For the lion we used gum drops for the mane, chocolate chips for eyes and nose, and licorice pull aparts for his whiskers.
For the cupcake tower we covered the cans with brown paper, the boards with green tissue paper, and added grass.
